Duplex Apartment Renovation in Paris

Located on the upper floors of a residential building in Paris, this project reinterprets the main living level of a duplex apartment while preserving the architectural qualities that define its character. The clients wished to retain the existing position of the kitchen and bedroom while reorganising the master suite and improving the relationship between the apartment’s living spaces.

The intervention is structured around a new central volume that integrates storage, wardrobes and service functions while reorganising circulation throughout the apartment. Rather than dividing the open plan, this element establishes clear transitions between the entrance, kitchen, bedroom and living areas, allowing the surrounding spaces to remain visually connected.

The existing partition separating the living room from the dining area was partially removed to strengthen the relationship between both spaces and accommodate the clients’ grand piano. A continuous built-in element, combining shelving and a low bench, penetrates the former dividing wall, establishing a visual connection between the two rooms while allowing each to retain its own identity.

The kitchen remains in its original location but is updated with a new material palette and bespoke cabinetry. The master bedroom is reconfigured as an ensuite, incorporating integrated storage and a more efficient organisation of the private spaces.

Throughout the project, existing features—including the exposed timber beams, fireplace and generous openings overlooking the Parisian rooftops—are carefully preserved. A restrained palette of white volumes and custom joinery allows these original elements to remain the protagonists while introducing a contemporary layer that brings clarity and continuity to the apartment.
