Located on the top floor of a nine-storey building in Barcelona, this project transforms a former office into a family home designed around contemporary patterns of living and remote working. With open views across the city and terraces on both façades, the apartment takes full advantage of its elevated position.
The apartment enjoys a dual orientation, with terraces and panoramic views on both façades. The design builds upon these qualities to create a bright and naturally ventilated home, where daylight and visual connections to the city are present throughout the day.
The clients’ brief called for three bedrooms, including a master suite, together with a dedicated workspace for remote working. Particular attention was given to the organization of the private areas, separating the parents’ bedroom from the children’s rooms and creating a clear balance between shared and individual spaces. The children’s bedrooms share a family bathroom and maintain a direct relationship with one of the terraces, while the master suite is located at the opposite end of the apartment, benefiting from greater privacy and its own connection to the outdoor space.
The original office layout consisted of a series of enclosed rooms connected by a central corridor. The new proposal replaces this fragmented arrangement with a more fluid domestic environment organized around a compact service core containing the kitchen, bathrooms and storage spaces.
A custom-designed furniture element structures the entrance sequence and incorporates a dedicated home office. Positioned between the entrance and the living area, it provides a degree of privacy while maintaining visual continuity across the apartment. Integrating storage, shelving and a desk, this architectural element defines the transition between the entrance and the living spaces while creating a dedicated work environment connected to the daily life of the home.
Beyond this threshold, the living room, dining area and kitchen form a generous open-plan space that extends towards the main terrace and the panoramic views beyond. The existing concrete structure is left exposed and becomes an integral part of the interior composition, contrasting with the warmth of the oak flooring, birch plywood detailing and white cabinetry.
