This full renovation transformed a top-floor apartment with a terrace from a fragmented layout of long, dark corridors into a bright and functional family home.

The owners, a couple with two young children, wanted a home that could evolve with their family’s changing needs. The intervention reorganized the apartment to accommodate a flexible family programme while creating brighter living spaces and strengthening the connection between the interior and the terrace.

The design takes full advantage of the apartment’s top-floor position, maximizing natural light and panoramic views across the Barcelona skyline.

Unnecessary partition walls were removed, while sections of the load-bearing walls were opened and reinforced with steel beams to create a bright open-plan living space with cross ventilation. The kitchen, dining and living areas were relocated next to the terrace, allowing the outdoor space to become a natural extension of the home for dining and relaxing.

The kitchen occupies one side of the open-plan living area, where black cabinetry, worktops and appliances contrast with the grey-toned patterned hydraulic tile splashback. A bespoke steel-and-glass screen separates it from the flexible guest room while maintaining visual continuity and allowing natural light to flow freely between the two spaces

The opposite side of the apartment accommodates the master suite, comprising a bedroom, dressing area and private bathroom. Here, another bespoke steel-and-glass partition brings daylight deep into the bathroom. White zellige, patterned cement tiles, timber and bespoke metalwork create a restrained material palette, while the children’s bathroom introduces green and white patterned tiles to create a brighter and more playful atmosphere.

Throughout the apartment, white walls contrast with the warmth of the timber flooring. The original Catalan vaulted ceiling, previously concealed above a suspended ceiling, was carefully exposed and painted white, reinforcing the sense of light and spaciousness that defines the project.
