Located in a residential neighbourhood of Barcelona, this renovation project redefines the relationship between the different areas of the home, creating a clearer distinction between day and night spaces while strengthening the connection with the terraces.
The intervention reorganises the apartment by clearly separating the day and night areas. The kitchen is relocated alongside the living room, consolidating the social spaces around the main terrace overlooking the interior patio, while the bedrooms are grouped along the east façade to benefit from the morning light. This new organisation accommodates a master suite with an ensuite bathroom, three additional bedrooms sharing two bathrooms, and a dedicated laundry room.
Adjacent to the entrance, a bespoke partition defines a home office that also serves as a guest room while maintaining a visual connection with the hall. An integrated bench and a steel-and-glass opening with adjustable pivoting panels featuring a reflective surface allow the room to alternate between openness and privacy, filtering views and natural light. When closed, the panels visually enlarge the entrance sequence, compensating for the reduced width of the corridor and creating a greater sense of openness. Opposite, the new L-shaped kitchen extends into part of the former corridor, becoming an integral part of the day area.
The living room remains in its original position overlooking the patio, but is redefined around a new fireplace that replaces the existing one. A generous island anchors the kitchen, while a bespoke timber table extends seamlessly from it into the living room, reinforcing the continuity between cooking, dining and everyday life. Alongside the fireplace, a continuous bench becomes an integrated architectural element that strengthens the relationship between the seating area and the terrace beyond.
Throughout the apartment, bespoke joinery integrates storage and architectural elements into a coherent whole. A restrained palette of oak, white lacquer, black steel and marble brings continuity to the intervention, allowing natural light, proportion and carefully framed views to define the character of the interior.
