This project consists of the design of a bespoke library for a private house in Arcangues, France.
Conceived as a single architectural element, the shelving extends from wall to wall, framing the living space while providing generous storage for the owners’ extensive book collection and personal objects. Painted white to match the surrounding walls, the library is designed to recede into the architecture, allowing its contents to become the visual focus.
A continuous bench beneath the existing windows connects the two shelving units, creating a place to sit and read while reinforcing the composition as a single element. Detached from the ceiling, the library maintains a sense of visual lightness despite its generous dimensions, allowing the original proportions of the room to remain clearly perceptible.
Rather than acting as a piece of furniture placed within the space, the library becomes part of the architecture, providing an understated backdrop that evolves over time as the collection it contains continues to grow.
